Tetra-tert-butyl titanate is an organic titanium alkoxy compound, a pale yellow to colorless transparent liquid at room temperature, with extremely strong reactivity and high sensitivity to water; it hydrolyzes rapidly upon contact with water to form titanium dioxide and tert-butanol. It is soluble in hydrocarbons, esters, alcohols, and most other organic solvents. The tert-butyl group in its molecular structure has large steric hindrance, giving it milder hydrolysis and stronger controllability than tetraisopropyl and tetra-n-butyl titanate, and combining chelating, crosslinking, catalytic, and coupling functions; it is a high-end organic titanium functional raw material.
Reaction catalyst:
· Transesterification / esterification catalysis: as a non-acidic homogeneous catalyst, replacing strong acids such as sulfuric acid and p-toluenesulfonic acid, catalyzing the esterification and transesterification of various carboxylic acids, polyols, and vegetable oils. Mild reaction conditions, few side reactions, no strong-acid residue in the product, suitable for high-end synthetic esters, lubricating base oils, and biodiesel refining.
· Condensation, cyclization, and polymerization catalysis: catalyzing the aldol condensation of ketones and aldehydes, and the crosslinking polycondensation of polyols with silanes and organic acids; acting as a polymerization catalyst in the synthesis of polylactic acid, polyester, and polyether, precisely controlling polymer molecular weight, with high transparency and light color of the finished product.
· Addition and isomerization reaction auxiliary: used in epoxy ring-opening addition and olefin isomerization reactions, relying on the empty orbital of the titanium atom to complex reactants and lower the reaction activation energy, improving reaction selectivity.
Coatings and paint-specific functional additives:
· Adhesion promoter: the titanate alkoxy group can chemically bond with hydroxyl and carboxyl groups on the substrate surface, while the organic tert-butyl group at the other end is compatible with the resin, greatly improving the adhesion of paints and industrial coatings to metal (aluminum, steel, galvanized sheet), glass, and ceramic substrates, solving coating peeling and flaking problems.
· Crosslinking curing agent: crosslinks with hydroxyl acrylic resin, alkyd resin, and epoxy resin at room/moderate temperature, shortening coating curing time and improving coating hardness, water resistance, solvent resistance, and salt-spray corrosion resistance; mostly used for metal anti-corrosion paints, industrial baking paints, and glass baking paints.
· Pigment dispersing and wetting agent: coats the surface of inorganic pigments (titanium dioxide, iron oxide, talc), eliminating pigment agglomeration, reducing coating system viscosity, improving pigment loading and tinting strength, and improving coating storage stability without pigment settling or stratification.
· Anti-yellowing and leveling auxiliary: the low-activity mild hydrolysis characteristic avoids the yellowing defect that ordinary titanates easily cause in coatings, improving film gloss and surface leveling, suitable for high-end transparent varnishes and plastic topcoats.
